3 gold stocks worth buying on recent weakness

Gold’s retreat is exposing an uncomfortable trade-off – rising oil prices fuel inflation, but they also strengthen the case for higher interest rates, undermining demand for non-yielding bullion.

Spot gold is down roughly 0.5% to $4,120 an ounce as of writing on October 20 as investors await Federal Reserve’s meeting next week.

The recent decline in gold prices has resulted in pressure on gold stocks as well.

But three names, Newmont, Agnico Eagle, and Kinross, are worth buying on the dip heading into 2027.

Newmont Corporation (NEM)

Newmont shares are worth owning for reasons beyond an anticipated rebound in gold prices.

The producer generated $2.2 billion in Q2 free cash flow and finished June with $3.4 billion in net cash.

Its quarterly gold all-in sustaining costs were $1,621 an ounce – illustrating the substantial cushion its operations had against weaker bullion prices.

That financial strength gives NEM room to fund projects and repurchase stock through commodity volatility. But the immediate test arrives with earnings on October 22.

Investors should watch production and spending closely – strong historical cash flow supports the investment case, but sustaining it matters more than repeating a headline profit beat.

Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM)

Agnico Eagle stock stands out for investors who want exposure to gold without relying entirely on a sharp price recovery.

Q2 production reached 855,816 ounces, with all-in sustaining costs of $1,459 an ounce.

AEM also ended June with about $3.27 billion in net cash, providing considerable financial flexibility.

These figures underpin the buying case – lower operating costs can help preserve cash generation when bullion weakens, while balance-sheet strength supports continued investment.

Agnico expects 2026 production near the lower end of its 3.3 million – 3.5 million-ounce guidance range, and capital spending has increased as it advances Hope Bay.

Nevertheless, the unchanged full-year sustaining-cost outlook of $1,475 an ounce shows that its operating economics remain resilient.

That combination makes the pullback an opportunity to accumulate a financially strong producer.

Kinross Gold (KGC)

Kinross Gold offers a more demanding buying case because its challenges extend beyond bullion.

In September, management trimmed annual production outlook for both 2026 and the coming year to 1.85 million gold-equivalent ounces following weather and operating problems at La Coipa and Round Mountain.

Meanwhile, updated 2026 all-in sustaining-cost guidance rose to $1,875 per ounce as well.

Yet the same update increased its targeted shareholder returns from 40% to 50% of 2026 free cash flow.

Kinross had already returned about $800 million by September 23rd – including $655 million through buybacks.

Paracatu and Tasiast continue to anchor the portfolio, with combined annual output expected at 1.1 million ounces.

For investors comfortable with execution risk, those core operations and stronger capital returns support buying gradually, while watching for evidence that the troubled mines are stabilizing.
